Another Summer Birthday

Today I'm doing another home-y post and going through everything we did for my Mum's birthday. It was such a lovely day and I'm really happy with how everything turned out, so I thought I'd share everything we did as it might inspire someone out there planning a birthday!

Didn't you just post about a birthday? I hear you ask...yes I did! There's a lot of events close together around this time of year in my family, but this will be the last one for a while! So let's get started, and I'll talk you through another self-isolation birthday.

We began our day with what else but presents! I was pretty happy with how I laid out the gifts. My Mum shares a birthday with Frida Kahlo, so I went with a slight Mexican-inspired theme. All of the decor you'll see throughout this post is from Talking Tables, however I often also make purchases from Ginger Ray (Please note that this post is not sponsored). I went for some beautiful, colourful bunting, and cactus balloons.

In regards to gifts, I went for the following:

  • An Emma Bridgewater radio

  • Edinburgh Gin

  • Edward Gorey Decor Item

  • Roald Dahl Chocolate

  • Cookie Making Set

  • Harry Potter Lego Set

While certainly not cheap, the Lego set proved to be worth its weight in gold. As we couldn't do much outside, having something fun and creative like a Lego set to do was fantastic.

From there we went for a walk in one of our favourite places; the woods. There's something so lovely about spending time outdoors at the moment; it feels so freeing! There's also something about woodlands that make me feel very calm, so it was a great way to spend our morning.

Once we returned we had a go at making the cookies from earlier. I have to admit, they weren't as easy to make as we thought, however they looked pretty amazing at the end. We freezed them and will cook them tomorrow...I'm very excited to see how they turn out! Check out my Instagram to find out what they were like!

Before we knew it, it was time for lunch! I took the time to lay out a charcuterie board of sorts. Some of the things it included were:

  • Bread

  • crackers

  • Olives

  • Cheese

  • Dips (garlic aioli, houmous, guacamole, salsa, thousand island, sour cream)

  • Mustard

  • Pickle

  • Crisps

  • Salami and Ham

From there me and my Mum decided to spend an hour starting to put together the Great Hall Lego set. But let me tell you, we just couldn't put it down! In total we ended up spending three hours completing the whole thing. As I said before, it's so much fun, and we're already considering getting another one to work on.

Once evening fell, it was time for dinner. Today we went for a Chinese takeaway; one of our favourites. I did continue the theme of the day in the table decor, however.

And finally, we ended the day with cake and a film. The cake consisted of four flavours; coffee, chocolate, victoria sponge, and vanilla; it tasted so good!

It was such a nice day; I'm really happy with how things turned out. I hope anyone out there planning a birthday found this useful; it would be great to know your own tips and tricks for putting a birthday together!
