Beautiful Photo Spots in Edinburgh
Edinburgh is an instagrammer's dream. Everywhere you go there are beautiful places to take amazing pictures. No matter the weather or the season, there's something for everyone. There are classic photo spots that you've probably heard of here, but I also wanted to share some areas you might not know about where you can get a cracking picture.
Water of Leith
The Water of Leith is a river that runs through part of Edinburgh. It makes for a fantastic walk if you want to go along the whole thing, but the highlight is definitely Dean Village. This is a small residential area that the river passes through, and it's breath taking. There are lots of ways to get here, with cut throughs through beautiful streets; the entire thing is a lovely experience. Dean Village itself is small, so I wouldn't expect to spend a long time there, but you can easily take hundreds of beautiful pictures. Every way you turn there's a new, unique building to look at. There's also a small waterfall here to add to the vibe.
Circus Lane is located near Dean Village in Stockbridge, so I recommend doing both of these areas on the same trip. It's nothing more than a small residential street, but it's beautiful. It's one of the most photographed areas of the city, in fact. The winding lane is something out of a storybook, and everyone who lives there has embraced this image. From the cobbled stones, to the plants lining the road, you're bound to get a beautiful photo here. It's normally quite a quiet street as well, so you can take your time here. Be warned though, it looks pedestrianised, but you do get the odd car going up and down!
Of course this was going to make my list! It's a steep walk, but the reward when you get to the top of the hill is amazing. The view from the castle over the entire city is 360 degrees, and phenomenal, especially on a sunny day. It's really the ultimate photo spot in Edinburgh. That being said, there are also many amazing pictures you can get just by walking around the base of the castle. If you've got the time (and the energy), I recommend taking a stroll around the entire thing and you'll find some real hidden gems.
If Circus Lane is one of the most popular photo spots in Edinburgh, Victoria Street is the ultimate one! The inspiration for Diagon Alley in Harry Potter, you'll always find people taking pictures here. You don't have to try very hard to get an amazing snap; this colourful street is so beautiful. There's also some great shops along here as well, so it's worth taking the time to have a slow look around.
Calton Hill is one of the many hills surrounding Edinburgh. Located to the East of the city, it's a steep climb up to the top, but the view makes it all worth it. 360 degree views out over the city makes every photo amazing. This is a great place to go during fireworks, as the uninterrupted vista is perfect for such occasions. You'll often find people relaxing up the top of the hill having picnics, and I highly recommend doing the same.
And those are my top pics for beautiful photo spots in Edinburgh. I'd love to know where your favourite places are, or where you like to take nice pictures in your own town or city!
