Get To Know Me: Travel Edition
Today I thought I'd do something a little bit different on this blog. When I read other people's blogs, one of my favourite things to read about are posts about the author. It's important to me to get to know the person whose work I am reading about. So today I thought I would answer some questions about me! Some may enjoy this kind of content, some might skip right by it, totally fine by me!
I've seen this tag on several blogs, so I'm not sure who created it, but please note that I did not make up this tag myself.
What is your preferred method of travel?
This is a tough one for me as I actually hate all modes of transport! I get motion sick very easily, and so all of my travel experiences involve a certain level of nausea. At a push, I would say that trains are my favourite mode of transport, as they're incredibly comfy and I think they're the best way to see the country you're visiting. Although they're the quickest mode of transport, I hate planes, so definitely not them!
What are your top three travel items?
1 - Headphones - Doesn't matter the kind - any form of headphones will work. Especially if you're travelling on your own, having a podcast or some music that you can listen to can be vital when you're travelling...sitting on a plane/train can be very boring otherwise!
2 - Portable charger - If you like to take lots of photos and videos like me then your phone battery can drain very quickly. Having a portable charger that you can bring around with you can be a life saver to stop you being stranded somewhere without a working phone!
3 - Map - While I do tend to rely on Google Maps on my phone, you never know when you're going to hit a point without any internet access, or, as above, your phone might die. Therefore I like to have a physical map in my bag, with all the main points I want to hit (and my hotel) circled, so that I will never get completely lost.
Hostel or hotel?
Definitely a hotel! Hostels are not my cup of tea. Don't get me wrong, I think they're amazing if you're travelling on a tight budget, or for solo travellers who want to meet other people. Personally, I much prefer the comfort and amenities of a hotel.
Are you a repeat visitor, or do you prefer to visit new places?
I definitely prefer to visit new places. While there are some amazing places I have been that I would love to go back to, for me the most exciting part of travelling is getting to explore an entirely new culture and place. There are one or two places, however, that I do make the effort to go back to...mainly the Disney Parks. I love visiting them every couple of years!
Do you read up on your destination, or do you just wing it?
I definitely read up on somewhere first. I am not someone who can just wing it...at all! Every second of my day is planned out in advance. I totally understand why some people don't enjoy travelling that way, but for me half the fun of travelling is the planning beforehand! While it may take some of the spontaneity out of travel, it means there are no unexpected unpleasant surprises.
Where would you recommend a friend to visit, and why?
I know I'm biased, but I always recommend visiting Edinburgh. It's where I'm from, and I think it's the most beautiful place on Earth. While it is a popular tourist destination, I don't think enough people consider it as a place to visit, especially as most visiting the UK tend to head to London (which I also love). There's so much to see and do, and everything's walkable as it's such a small place; I love it!
You're leaving tomorrow and money is no option, where as you going?
Probably Egypt. Weirdly enough it's a place that's only about a two hour plane ride away and I've never been! I would love to go to Cairo and Giza and see the pyramids and soak in the culture of Egypt.
And that's it! I hope you have learnt a bit more about me through this blog post. Feel free to answer these questions yourself in the comments!
Until next time,
