Halloween in Edinburgh

If you're looking for somewhere to spend your Halloween, I present to you...Edinburgh! Not only is it considered the most haunted city in Europe (and perhaps the world), but it also looks incredible in the autumn season. There are so many amazing things to do in the Scottish capital in October, so today I thought I'd share some of my favourite activities to inspire your next trip!

Ghost Tours

It's not very difficult to find a ghost tour in Edinburgh. There are tons of companies that put on a wide variety of performances throughout the city. There are the more established companies such as Mercat Tours, who have access into the abandoned underground vaults of the city, and there are also free walking tours that take you to Edinburgh's many graveyards. If spooky stories aren't really your thing, lots of companies also offer historical tours during the day.

Ghost Bus Tour

For something a little bit different, there is also a ghost bus tour that operates from the Royal Mile. This experience combines comedy and horror for a truly unique evening of scary stories about the haunted city. I'm going to be trying this out soon for a future blog post, so keep an eye out for that!

Samhuinn Fire Festival

Samhuinn Fire Festival is a Scottish tradition that takes place twice a year, including October. This outdoor event includes fire throwing and processions, and is a recreation of old Pagan rituals. It's an incredibly fun way to spend an evening, and really feels like you're a part of history and experiencing something truly unique and amazing!

While I'm not going to pretend that Edinburgh's Oktoberfest is better than Germany's (far from it), it's still a pretty cool experience in the capital. This is a great chance to kick back, relax, and have a great time with live music and lots of food and drink! It's also something to do in October that's not Halloween-related. So if you're looking for something a little less spooky and a little more light-hearted, this might be the experience for you.

Edinburgh Horror Festival

Edinburgh is very proud of its title as one of the most haunted cities in the world, and this can be shown in its very own horror festival. It really covers everything; there are film screenings, performances, games, and workshops taking place throughout the city. It's a really fun experience with so much to see and do. If you're a fan of the horror genre, I recommend looking into this unique experience.

And those are my picks for things to do in October in Edinburgh. I'd love to know some of your favourite autumnal/spooky activities in your home town. If you have any questions about any of these opportunities, please get in touch.
