Monthly Favourites - May

Today is an exciting one here at Global Solo! I've started a new series that will appear each month on this blog, which is 'Monthly Favourites'. I will be detailing a specific list of my favourite things from that month, to hopefully share and inspire those that are reading. This will include a TV show recommendation, a movie recommendation, a favourite item (e.g. clothing), and an experience that I recommend others to take part in. Not only will this be a chance for me to share some of my favourite things, but it's also a way for me to push myself to try something new and keep watching/experiencing new things...I hope you enjoy!

TV Show: Night on Earth

Recently I've just been wanting something super cosy and relaxing to watch. It's been an incredibly busy couple of weeks, with a lot going on, so when it comes to media I am consuming, I'm all over things that are relaxing. And let me tell you, there's nothing more relaxing than Netflix's Night on Earth. This documentary series covers a variety of different landscapes on earth through a single night. It's absolutely beautiful, completely fascinating, and the narration could lull you to sleep in a minute (which it did for me)! My favourite episode, if you're looking for one to start on, would be the jungle one. It's maybe just because I've always been fascinated with the rainforest, but I found this episode in particular to be very interesting.

Movie: Operation Varsity Blues: The College Admissions Scandal

I know, I know, it's another documentary, but that's all I seem to be watching at the moment! Another Netflix creation, Operation Varsity Blues covers the series of events that led to the college admissions scandal in the USA. It's a fascinating watch that captured my attention the entire time. It's shocking, it's surprising, and it leaves you with a warning about these events that are still going on in the system. I knew very little about the scandal before I watched this documentary and I learned so much; it's a must watch!

Experience: Clifftop Walk

You may have seen from one of my more recent blog posts, that I took a trip to St. Abbs to do the infamous clifftop walk. It was a breath taking experience with the most beautiful views. It made me feel very proud of my country to be standing right at the very edge of it, looking out (theoretically) to Denmark and Norway, although I'll admit you certainly couldn't see them from the cliffs! So my experience recommendation this month is to do a cliff walk of your own. While I appreciate this isn't possible in some places, if it's something you're able to do I recommend it, particularly right at the border of your own country. It's an amazing experience! It is thrilling, beautiful, and really makes you think.

Item: Desk Planner

This sounds pretty basic as a recommendation, and it is. I mean, it's a great tool to keep at your workspace to keep you organised. But that's not why I'm recommending it today. I like to get a desk planner and keep it in my kitchen, where I write down my breakfasts, lunches, and dinners for the next week. Not only does this help me when I'm ordering food so there's less waste as I know exactly what I'm going to be needing, but it also helps me stick to a plan. It's super useful being able to see exactly what's coming up for the week ahead, so I highly recommend getting one yourself. I'm currently using this one from Amazon.

And that's it for my recommendations this month. I hope you enjoyed it! I'm looking forward to continuing this tradition moving forward. I'd love to know what your recommendations would be for each of these categories; please let me know!
