My Christmas Eve 2020

Merry Christmas everyone! And if you don't celebrate, I hope you're having a lovely, relaxing day. Today I thought I'd reflect on the Christmas Eve I had this year, and then my next post on Monday will be going over my Christmas Day. Overall, I had an amazing, incredibly relaxing day. Christmas Eve is always my favourite day of the year because we do so many fun things, but there's also the anticipation of the big day itself. I'd love to know if you prefer Christmas Eve or Christmas Day!

So I started off by having a lie-in which was amazing. I slept until 8.30am, which is unheard of for me, so my day definitely got off to a good start. I took my time getting ready as well while catching up on YouTube videos...very relaxing!

My day really began by going on our traditional Christmas Eve walk. Normally we go to this massive country park near me that has countless walking trails, as well as a cafe and a beautiful gift shop. It's always designed really festive and it's a super fun place to visit. Due to the restrictions currently in place in Scotland, sadly we were unable to visit this year, so instead we took a different route. We are very lucky to have a beautiful riverside walk that we can go on in our town, so we went on that way. It was great as it was really quiet and the weather was perfect for being outdoors.

Once back, I decided to have a bath to warm up. I went with one of my Winter Lush bath bombs, and it was exactly what I needed after being out in the cold for so long. I took my time in the bath, listening to podcasts and overall having a very relaxing time, which seems to be the theme of the day.

From there I watched a Christmas film. If you follow me on Instagram, you may have seen that, throughout the month of December, I've been trying to watch as many Christmas films as possible. Today's choice was The Muppet's Christmas Carol; definitely a classic! We also started a jigsaw while we watched. I've not normally been a jigsaw person, but this year I've definitely got into them; they're really fun!

Was it really Christmas Eve if you didn't bake? Normally I go for some festive brownies or something like that. This year, I went for something a bit different...jammie dodgers! And let me tell you, they were delicious! We followed a BBC Good Food recipe and it came out amazing; I definitely recommend giving it a go.

By this point, it was almost time for dinner. After a quick nap, our Chinese takeaway arrived. It's a tradition in my house that we always go for a takeaway on Christmas Eve as the next day will be so full of cooking. The dinner was absolutely delicious, in case you were wondering. I was responsible for setting the table, and I went all out! This included personalised bauble name cards, confetti, winter napkins, and Christmas bibs!

Suitably full from dinner, I handed out my first gift of the festive season...blankets! They're basically oodies, but without the ridiculous price tag (thank you Amazon). They were for everyone to wear when the main event occurred...my annual Christmas games night! Every year I put together about an hour of fun activities with lots of quiz rounds and games. It's so much fun; I always have the best time hosting it!

This year I gave the winner a bit of a unique prize...a chocolate fondue set with marshmallows and strawberries. We were too full to enjoy it, but I can't wait to give it a try! From there we wound down and watched Elf; I deliberately saved my favourite Christmas film for last! After a bit more jigsawing, I went to bed to write this blog post, suitably tired and full, but excited for tomorrow!
