My Favourite TV Shows

I figured today I would take things down a notch and go through some of my favourite TV shows of all time. Now none of these shows are exactly unknown; I do tend to watch the kind of programmes that everyone else is watching, but hey, maybe there's something here you haven't watched before! I've grouped my recommendations into topics so you can find the best choice for you. Let me know what your favourite TV shows are in the comments!

Arrested Development is the ultimate rewatch show. There are so many recurring jokes and clever puns that every second of the show is packed with enough gags that you'll never catch them all the first time. On top of all this, it's just an incredibly funny, smart show that will guarantee you multiple laughs an episode.

Community also falls into this category. It's had a huge resurgence now that it's on Netflix, and if you're new to the show I highly recommend giving it a watch. On the surface, this is your run of the mill sitcom, but it's so clever underneath, with multiple running jokes and background gags that you'll only notice if you pay attention to the background characters. This show also plays with genre, including their infamous paintball episodes; it's one not to miss!

Light Hearted...

When you're looking for a show you can have on in the background, look no further than Parks and Recreation. This might be my favourite show of all time to be honest. It's so warm and friendly; this show is never trying to be negative, it's all about pointing out the best things about humanity. It's feel good and fun, and a great show to have on in the background.

Another light hearted show I love is Derry Girls. While it tackles significantly bigger issues than shows like Parks and Rec, it's still got an upbeat, friendly feel to it. Derry Girls is funny, feel-good, and a whole lot of fun.

I love my reality TV shows, and I'm not ashamed to admit that I watch a lot of it; there are a fair few shows I could have picked for this category, but I've opted to go for The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. Now I'll admit, I'm new to the Real Housewives franchise, so Beverly Hills is the only one I've watched so far, but oh my god I love it. This show is so stupid that it's amazing! If you like fake fights and a lot of bling, this is the show for you!

I couldn't have a reality TV list without including RuPaul's Drag Race! It's had its controversies, and I would certainly argue that it's past its prime, but there's still something so magical about this show. Watching people showing so much pride for who they are and displaying such amazing talents is always amazing to watch.

I adore spooky TV shows because it's such a unique genre. Horror tend to find itself in films, so it can be rare to find a properly scary TV show. So you can imagine my delight when I came across the Haunting of Hill House on Netflix. This show is unbelievable. It's that one programme that I always encourage other people to watch when I find out they haven't. Not only is this show properly scary, it's also amazingly well written and acted. There's one episode where the entire hour long run time is filmed in only three shots...so clever! If you do decide to watch, keep an eye on the background...there might be more there than you'd first think...
